Sometimes you come across musicians that stop all the commotion going on in the audience and grab the attention of an entire crowd. The Road Show was lucky enough to stumble upon such talents in Caitlin and Sidney Powell of Two Girls With Guitars. After their gig at Mangia Bevi at Fiddler’s Green on the Road Show stage, Tim Powell, a man of many hats – father, manager, coordinator, preparer of meats, etc. – took the time to answer a couple questions about his daughters.

How did Two Girls With Guitars form?

“Two Girls with Guitars were born of a compromise between Caitlin and Sidney to work together on a duo as a Christmas gift for their mom. They continued together fed by positive feedback from crowds on their harmonies and complimentary guitar skills. Both girls were born on the East Coast of Florida where they left the sun and beaches in 2005. Moving around the South with their family they picked up singing at an early age under the influence of their mother and started playing guitar in 2011 while living in Columbia SC. In 2012 they settled in the mountains of Evergreen overlooking Denver Colorado.”

Who are some of Sidney and Caitlin’s musical influences?

“Sidney’s influences are singers like Adele along with musical groups like Need to Breath and The Eagles. Her favorite song from the past is House of the Rising Sun by the Animals and more recent hits like Let her go by Passenger.”

“Caitlin’s influences are singers and songwriters like Sarah McLachlan and she enjoys recent artists like Ed Sheeran, Josh Garrels and groups like One Republic. Her favorite song from the past is Hallelujah written by Leonard Cohen and the more recent song Lego House by Ed Sheeran. Our goal is to write and perform music that connects to people emotionally and we dream to play historic venues like the Beacon Theatre in NY and sell out an epic venue like Red Rocks.”

What does Two Girls With Guitars do when they are not playing shows and recording?

“You can find both Caitlin and Sidney slope side enjoying a full season of Snowboarding across various Colorado resorts. Caitlin has a voracious craving to read where Sidney would rather spend her time playing with her four animals and hiking around the mountains.”

Two Girls With Guitars are currently recording their first EP to be released late 2013/early 2014. Hear some of their music at twogirlswithguitars.com.
